Swordfish rostrum from Madagascar.

Swordfish (Xiphias gladius) are large, highly migratory, predatory fish characterized by a long, flat, pointed bill. They are a popular sport fish of the billfish category.

The swordfish is named after its pointed, flat bill, which resembles a sword .

The popular belief of the "sword" being used as a spear is misleading. Their nose is more likely used to slash at its prey to injure the prey animal to make for an easier catch.

This species of Spongia came from the Florida Keys.

It is a very healthy population once from many years they are fished commercially for bath sponges, these are special pieces turned into great decor objects. The sponges feed on microorganisms that they filter and their larvae are taken by the sea movements making them widespread. Taken by divers from 5 to 40 meters deep.

This mysterious Natural Septarian nodule, from Madagascar, show its “septum” formation.

Septarias are prehistoric marine nodules of bio-sedimentary origin followed by dehydration during diagenesis, which today are found as large pebbles in clay soil.

The creation of a Septarian is a succession of events along millions years, they form around a core of organic matter (plant or animal). Sediments continue to settle on the nodule, compacting it under their weight, which will flatten it and expel water, while inside micro-cracks begin to form, amplified by tectonic movements.

It is in these shrinkage slots that over time dissolved minerals will crystallize. Its name comes from the Latin "septum" which means partition, barrier, indeed, when polishing of the nodule reveals and sublimates its elegant marbling of black calcite, millions of years that offer these sumptuous minerals, each piece is unique!
