At the heart of the piece is a Seriatopora hystrix coral from the Solomon Islands, surrounded by a fascinating array of seashells and marine specimens: an Argonauta hians (paper nautilus), Mitra mitra (bishop’s miter), Pecten pallium (scallop), Terebra dimidiata (auger shell), 2 Nerita textilis, and 2 Clanculus puniceus from the Philippines, as well as a Tachiacteria mirabilis, the remarkable Japanese wonder shell, from Japan.
