Gabbro is a phaneritic (coarse-grained), mafic intrusive igneous rock formed from the slow cooling of magnesium-rich and iron-rich magma into a holocrystalline mass deep beneath the Earth's surface.

Slow-cooling, coarse-grained gabbro is chemically equivalent to rapid-cooling, fine-grained basalt. Much of the Earth's oceanic crust is made of gabbro, formed at mid-ocean ridges. Gabbro is also found as plutons associated with continental volcanism. By rough analogy, gabbro is to basalt as granite is to rhyolite.

These superb patterned and grained specimen came from central Madagascar. The polishing work is made by local people.

This beautiful septarian sphere from Madagascar shows its interior crystallization in contrast with exterior colors.

Septarias are prehistoric marine nodules of bio sedimentary origin followed by dehydration during diagenesis, which today are found as large pebbles in clay soil. The creation of a Septarian is a succession of events along millions years, they form around a core of organic matter (plant or animal).

Sediments continue to settle on the nodule, compacting it under their weight which will flatten it and expel water, while inside micro-cracks begin to form, amplified by tectonic movements. It is in these shrinkage slots that over time dissolved minerals will crystallize.

Its name comes from the Latin "septum" which means partition, barrier, indeed, the polishing of the nodule reveals and sublimates its elegant marbling of black calcite, millions of years that offer these sumptuous minerals, each piece is unique!

This name reflects its historical use in medieval Russia (Muscovy) as a cost-effective alternative to glass for windows. The mineral gained prominence in England during the 16th century, with its first mention in letters by George Turberville, secretary to England's ambassador to Russian tsar Ivan the Terrible in 1568.

What sets muscovite apart is its pseudo hexagonal crystal structure and perfect cleavage, allowing the crystals to be split into ultra-thin, elastic sheets. From Deqing Fluorite Mine in Zhejiang Province -China- this piece has perfect layers of purple and transparent, mounted in a handmade brass base.

The mineral Pyrite, also known as "fool's gold," is an iron sulfide celebrated for its striking metallic luster and pale brass-yellow hue, which gives it a resemblance to gold and its iconic nickname. Pyrite typically forms in cubic crystals, with rarer occurrences of cubo-octahedral and pyritohedral shapes. Some exceptional specimens with beveled edges originate from Navajún, Spain.

Since the 1980s, Pyrites from Navajún have become world-renowned for their remarkable quality and perfection. This unique locality has been a cornerstone of international mineral fairs, attracting collectors, mineralogists, and enthusiasts from across the globe. Over the years, these exceptional pyrite specimens have solidified their reputation in the international collecting market, becoming highly sought after and a symbol of Spanish mineralogy, particularly in La Rioja.

With the mines now closed, Navajún pyrite specimens have become increasingly rare and valuable, making them a prized addition to any collection.

Grape Agate is the name given to a purple botryoidal form of Chalcedony found in the Batu Manakarra mining district of Indonesia's Sulawesi Island. It forms in clusters that often resemble bunches of small grapes, as seen in this beautiful specimen. Colors range from deep purple to green and is mounted in a handmade dark brass base. 

Beautiful red calcite that has been polished into the shape of a six sided obelisk. The base of the obelisk is flat, allowing for aesthetic presentation.

This red calcite was mined from the Norcross-Madagascar orange calcite quarry. This type of calcite likely occurred as a massive conglomerate, formed from mineral rich water solidifying following accumulation as flowstone and/or through precipitative processes.

A stunning scolecite cluster features acicular sprays of crystals in their original cavity, formed within laccoliths derived from syenitic and gabbroic magmas.

The scolecite crystals exhibit glassy faces and are mostly translucent, with transparent four-sided pyramidal terminations. They are typically found inside cavities in basalt. This remarkable specimen comes from the Nasik District of Maharashtra, India.
